TOP 10 WEBSITES FOR STUDENTS
Top 10 useful study websites to help students prepare for seminars, explore new trends in science and just stay informed.
1) Сoursera is one of the most popular online education websites. Almost all of my classmates use this resource. It offers not only individual lectures but also full courses by leading higher education institutions from all over the world. I am a marketing student, so Marketing Strategy, Digital Analytics in Marketing, and SMM courses were particularly useful to me. Studying on this platform is very convenient because each course has video lectures with subtitles and text notes, as well as the opportunity to check yourself with tests and final exams.
2) Edx is a one more platform with online courses in various knowledge areas. It also provides free access to lectures and all the materials. I studied on Edx when preparing for the IELTS English exam. The platform has an excellent course called IELTS Academic Test Preparation that I have completed with a score of 7.0. Thus, I advise everyone planning to take international exams in English (by the way, the website also has TOEFL materials) to pay attention to the resource because this is a real opportunity to get a thorough preparation.
3) Prometheus is the Ukrainian version of Сoursera. It contains such useful courses as Entrepreneurship. Your Own Business in Ukraine, Financial Management, Communication Tools for Reputation Building, etc. The content of the platform meets the demands of Ukrainian consumers. Besides, lectures are delivered by professors from leading universities: KNU, KPI and Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.
4) 4brain is a unique resource presenting not basic university courses but exactly the kind of material needed to develop skills and abilities. Together with a friend, we took classes on time management, speed reading, and storytelling on this platform. The courses gave really good results because they were focused on the development of abilities using tests, games and exercises.
5) Udemy is a resource where you can find high-quality paid content to study various disciplines. Compared to Сoursera, its courses are less academic but quite useful for developing skills, as lectures are given by practitioners and professionals in their field. The amount of material is enormous, and I sometimes find it hard to make a choice because I want it all at once. Note: you should be as disciplined as possible in order to study the subject to the end because there are no clear deadlines or class schedules.
6) TED – there is probably no student who hasn’t heard of TED conferences. It is one of my favorite resources where I can learn some interesting discovery or unique modern idea in just 15-20 minutes. Experts in education, business, science, technology and psychology talk about their achievements and results. Fascinating lectures help me learn English and find interesting ideas for my work and studies.
7) Khan Academy is one of the most famous educational projects. Lectures are collected in YouTube video format. It doesn’t just bring together individual courses from lecturers but all the basic subjects from both school and university curricula. The resource was a great addition to the study of micro- and macroeconomics in my first year. The format of video lectures with a detailed explanation of the material helped me understand all the difficult aspects and pass my exams perfectly.
8) FutureLearn is another online platform allowing you to take courses by leading British and world universities for free. I like the fact that the website has interesting thematic courses divided into categories with the possibility to choose a specific section where I feel the lack of knowledge. One of the most useful materials for me was Bookkeeping for Personal and Business Accounting that helped me understand how to properly manage finances for personal and business purposes.
9) Academic Earth is a website where you can take a full course of Bachelor and Master lectures by the world’s coolest universities. Here you can get high-quality free education from professors at Oxford, Stanford, Harvard, and Berkeley. One of the interesting options for me were playlists where courses from different disciplines are gathered into one common topic. For example, Money Makes the World Go Round brings together lectures on behavioral psychology, the influence of money on the person’s life, and its financial power.
10) ВУМ-online is the Ukrainian online civic education platform. I am very interested in this project because it is aimed at giving all interested Ukrainians the opportunity to get knowledge they need to develop civic competencies, which will ultimately lead to qualitative changes in Ukrainian society. Here I found training courses by leading business school lecturers, activists and social practitioners. I was especially impressed by the lecture topics related to the economic development of Ukrainian society and social entrepreneurship.
