SCIENTIST ID SYSTEMS

In the scientific world, scientist identification plays a crucial role because it is the beginning of active communication with the scientific community and the powerful development of his/her scientific activities. The profile containing all valuable data about the author definitely enhances his/her status and authority in the scientific space.

Scientist’s image depends on numerous factors: publishing activity and stability, the amount of scientific citation of author’s papers, communication and cooperation with Ukrainian and foreign colleagues, state support and grants for scientific research, etc. Active achievements and high performance that can be traced on the researcher’s personal page allow him/her to confidently move forward in a particular area.

Thus, in order to start sharing their solutions, develop the status of the scholar and prepare a fruitful background for further scientific activities, scientists should register in one of the most popular specialized scientific services. There are a lot of them, and we will focus on the most popular ones.

This system is designed by the Elsevier media company and the Scopus database to reliably link the information of authors to their publications. It contains all the basic details about scientists and their research activities.

A profile can be used even without indexation, but the registration is required if one needs a serious publication analysis.

The system creates the scientist’s profile right after the first publication. However, if scholars do not have subscription, they won’t be able to enter their account with one paper. Only after the second article, researchers will enter their profile without subscription. Authors can seek information based on the following data: title of the abstract, article, journal; keywords; higher education institution; country; city; language, etc.

Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID) identifies scientists and allows transparently monitors their publishing activities. Like any other system, ORCID keeps basic information about scholar’s scientific activities.

It takes the form of a number and consists of 16 digits. This system has become quite popular among researchers, scientific institutions, libraries and publishing houses. More than 3 million users successfully apply its capabilities.

Google Academy: this free search system allows monitoring the citation rate of your own articles and calculating certain science indicators, as well as seeking through different sources.

Google Academy helps to monitor your references, search for copies of articles and see who cites the paper. Scientists have access to abstracts of papers and can create their own citation library. The Google Academy database contains numerous peer-reviewed international journals, providing access to plenty of useful information.
